SPRING BEGINS ANYWAY

No matter what is happening in the world right now, spring is still coming. I think that is beautiful. And I see it as a great opportunity for more mindfulness and a few beautiful moments in the here and now.

I often find myself thinking about the current situation with Corona, whether I want to or not. I am concerned with the question of what is still to come, but also with the sentimental memory of everything that was possible just a few weeks ago (and which I might not even have used).

But at the same time nature is doing “business as usual”. Shrubs and trees are blooming, daffodils are shooting up everywhere and when I wrote this, we also had spring-like 19 degrees in Switzerland.

My recipe against too much brooding is therefore: Take a good look!  The flowers and blossoms are beautiful right now and we missed them for a long time.

As an enthusiastic painter, I know: drawing and painting helps to see things much better. But it is not at all about whether you can paint or not. Just look like a painter. Look closely at a flower or a flowering branch, at every leaf, every shade of colour and every stamen. The light that shines through a calyx and the shadows that appear where two petals overlap.

This focus of attention can help you to sink into the moment and forget the hustle and bustle around you. And it can remind you that you are always living in that moment anyway. Never in the future and never in the past. Always now. And the moment you look at a flower and feel the sun or wind on your skin, you’re always fine, aren’t you?
